In its ongoing review of policies and procedures, the College updated its regulatory policy, R.1.2 Registration Policy, and the associated procedure, R.1.2.1 Registration Procedure.
For annual practice permit renewal, the College removed the requirement to have 600 practice hours in the prior 3 years. The current practice hour requirement for renewal is now 1,200 hours in the prior 5 years, which is required by the Acupuncturists Profession Regulation.
This change brings renewal requirements into alignment with other health professions, as well as the Government of Alberta’s desire to reduce red tape and sustain the healthcare workforce. It also provides regulated members with more flexibility in the event of unforeseen circumstances that impact a member’s ability to practice. The College continually strives to achieve right-touch regulation while upholding public safety and professional standards.
This change is effective for the upcoming practice permit renewal period, which opens on February 1, 2026.
