As part of its ongoing review of policies and standards, and its continued commitment to ensuring safe and competent care for Albertans, the College of Acupuncturists of Alberta has formalized its approach to assessing English language proficiency.

English language proficiency is not a new registration requirement. Applicants have always been required to demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English to practise safely and competently.

In April 2026, Council approved revisions to the College’s bylaws that introduce a more objective framework for assessing English language proficiency. The English language proficiency policy builds on those bylaw changes by establishing clear criteria and acceptable forms of evidence, as well as outlining applicable exemptions.

These updates improve clarity, consistency, and transparency in the registration process.

The English language proficiency policy will come into effect on January 1, 2027, and apply to registration applications submitted on or after that date.
