Practice permit renewal is now open and runs until March 31.

Registrants can access the renewal application through the member portal.

This post outlines helpful reminders and topics we often get questions on. For full information about the renewal process, visit the Renewal page.

Change to practice hour requirements

The College removed the requirement to have 600 direct practice hours in the past 3 years. Read the full announcement.

Continuing competence

To meet continuing competence requirements, you must have earned 15 CCP credits from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. You’ll report on the learning you completed in your 2025–26 learning plan.

You’ll also develop at least one goal for the 2026–27 learning plan. This goal should capture the learning you plan to do in the upcoming year.

For full information about the continuing competence program, refer to Continuing Competence Program.

Self-selected activities

To be eligible for CCP credits, a self-selected activity must address one of the 8 competencies identified in the Alberta Competency for Acupuncturists document.

Herbology-only courses are not accepted by the College for CCP credits.

College-directed learning

To satisfy all continuing competence requirements, you must complete the mandatory College-directed learning.

The mandatory learning this year is a free, online sexual abuse and misconduct course. Registrants receive 3 credits for completing this course. Alternate courses from other providers are not a substitute and will not be accepted.

You must have completed the course between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. Make sure you save the completion certificate, which must be uploaded to your renewal application.

First aid and CPR

Submit a valid first aid and CPR certificate. To be valid, your certificate must be from a training agency approved by Occupational Health and Safety.

Note that when entering the training provider, you should start typing the name and a list of providers will appear.

For more information about this requirement, refer to Standard First-aid and CPR-C Requirements.

Payment by e-transfer

If you’re paying by e-transfer, remember to include details such as your full name or registration number so we can link the payment to your account.
