Traditional Medicine Conference
Remembering Dr. David Chu On the morning of Friday June 11 we were deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Dr. David Chu. David represented many things to our community; advocate, mentor, leader, and a friend always ready to help. The Council of the CAAA Open Casket Viewing Funeral Service Words from Our Friends Message from Transitional Council of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturists of Ontario: It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Dr. David Chu who died suddenly in Calgary. Dr. Chu is well known for his dedication and commitment in championing the regulation of Acupuncturists in Alberta. He was an extraordinary TCM educator and practitioner who served many years on different boards promoting the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As colleagues we admired his tenacity and perseverance in overcoming the many challenges he had to face to bring forth legislation, to establish standards of education, examination and practice for the acupuncturist profession in Alberta. The TCM profession as a whole have lost a great leader whose contributions changed the landscape of TCM professional regulation and will continue to have significant impact on its future development. David demonstrated total devotion to his work, family and friends throughout his life. He inspired everyone who had the opportunity to work with him. His knowledge and expertise in the field of Acupuncture & TCM has been a great asset in the development of occupational competencies for Canada. We salute you David. We are proud to have known you, to work side by side with you in the past two years. We deeply appreciate the sacrifices that you have made over the years. We shall miss you, your smile and your heart-felt passion. We vouch that your vision will remain our vision. As your colleagues across this country, we shall continue to jointly strive to establish regulatory standards to qualify TCM practitioners and acupuncturists to ensure public safety. The Transitional Council of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturists of Ontario extends our condolences and prayers to David’s family, mother and daughters. His spirit will remain in the hearts of all of us. Message from The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia: Dearest David, please know that as your friends and colleagues, we will move ahead holding the precious legacy that you have bestowed upon us. It is a legacy encompassing not only the profession, but the gift of knowing such a unique and fine human being. Yours is a legacy of passion and caring and an unshakable devotion to the profession and to the community, and always, to your beloved family, mother and daughters. So many of our registrants have sent messages expressing their grief and their deep affection for David. These are a few of the messages: I am completely shocked and very sorry to hear about the sad news of David. It’s a big loss for TCM development here in Canada. I still can not believe that David has left us, his deeply loved family members and this profession to which he has devoted every drop of his life. It's hard to find a person like him who knows TCM well, speaks English well, in addition has passion and great sense of responsibility and mission to promote TCM in the west. My heart is painful and my eyes are tearful. Please pass my sympathy to his family. In the last 10 years, he has been such a strong support, mentally and physically, while I was walking on the path for developing this profession. Quite a few times, I felt so tough and wanted to give up, but because of him, I told myself repeatedly that if David has not given up, I should not give up. As a leader of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in his province of Alberta, for more than thirty years David has also been a constant source of encouragement and support to his many friends and colleagues in BC. David’s long years as a pioneer of our profession will enable Canadians to have access to Chinese medicine that is regulated and mainstream On behalf of the CTCMA board, and staff and the many British Columbians who have known David over the years as a friend, colleague and leader, in sadness we extend our condolences and prayers to the many people who are grieving their loss, and most especially to his family. Message from The Ordre des Acupuncteurs de Québec: Our deepest condolences to all the family and friends of our dear David. May we remember and be inspired by his warm friendship, generous heart, altruism and dedication.
